2013 Scala Guitars Underdog (with 'Sound Vents' design).

This beautiful guitar was specially made for us by Leo Scala. It weighs just 7.90 lbs.  Solid one-piece mahogany body with a hand carved 5A Private Collection flamed maple top. One-piece mahogany long tenon set-neck, with a nut width of 1 11/16 inches, a wonderful thick profile and a scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Brazilian rosewood fretboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and inlaid gold mother-of-pearl trapezoid (crown) position markers. The top of the guitar has single natural 'flamed' binding. Headstock with onlaid metal "Scala" logo and metal bell-shaped 'slotted' truss-rod cover with a single screw. Individual Grover 'Rotomatic' tuners with bell-shaped metal buttons. Serial number "13-60" stamped in blind on the back of the headstock. The bass side of the top has several unique sound-holes and the back of the guitar has two 'slotted' stainless-steel sound plates. One Arcane 1957 Experience 'Bass' humbucking pickup in the neck position and one Arcane 1957 Experience 'Treble' humbucking pickup in the bridge position. Cream plastic pickup surrounds. Two controls (one volume, one tone) on lower treble bout plus three-way pickup selector switch. Gold plastic barrel-shaped "Speed" knobs. ABR-1 style Tune-O-Matic bridge with metal saddles and combination "wrap-over" bar bridge/stud tailpiece. This fine guitar is in mint (9.50) condition and is complete with Leo Scala's special certificate of authenticity. Housed in the original G & G six-latch, shaped black 'Western' hardshell case with brown plush lining (9.50).

"The Underdog is a short scale, single cut, set neck construction instrument which has two sides to its story. The front of the Underdog is based on a carved flame maple Private Stock look, while the back of the instrument features ergonomically carved and custom distressed hand picked mahogany. Throughout two decades of building custom instruments we became convinced that such a combination of nitro finished tops and oiled backs, creates a more responsive instrument with quite amazing sound qualities. The Underdog also sports a proprietary set of fine tuned Arcane USA pickups, 'Endless Fret' slotting design and the instrument can be ordered with the optional chambering system, featuring our unique 'Sound Vents' design.
