The Last of the Real Country Gents…

Here is a super playing forty-two year old Country Gentleman that weighs just 8.50 lbs. Laminated maple body with four-ply binding (replaced) on the top and the back of the guitar and single binding (replaced) on the headstock and the fretboard. Three-piece rock maple neck with a nut width of just over 1 11/16 inches and a nice medium profile. Ebony fretboard with 22 original medium frets plus zero fret and neo-classic inlaid pearl thumbprint (half-moon) position markers. Standard Chet Atkins scale length of 24 1/2 inches. Headstock with inlaid pearl Gretsch "T-roof" logo and the rectangular gold-plated "Chet Atkins Country Gentleman" nameplate. Individual Grover tuners with kidney-shaped metal buttons. Two Filter'Tron pickups with outputs of 4.24k and 4.09k. Gold Lucite pickguard with Gretsch "T-roof" logo and "Chet Atkins Country Gentleman" engraved in black from underneath. Painted f-holes. Two volume controls (one for each pickup) plus a stand-by switch on the lower treble bout, one master volume control on the upper treble bout, plus two pickup and tone selector switches on upper bass bout. Later (replaced) Gretsch "Arrow-through-G" knobs with ribbed sides. Single string damper assemble removed, but with original single button in place on top of guitar. Gold-plated bar bridge on the original ebony base and gold-plated V-cutout B-6 Bigsby ("Gretsch by Bigsby") vibrato tailpiece. All hardware gold-plated. This is a really clean and super playing example of the fourth version of the Gent. It looks like a near mint (9.25) guitar BUT because of the binding issue we must give it just an excellent (8.50) rating. Housed in a modern Gretsch black hardshell with dark red plush lining (9.50).

This guitar looks, plays and sounds really great. The previous owner purchased the guitar in 2005 for $2,500 and then spent another $3,000 having the binding expertly and invisibly replaced (only visible under ultra violet light). The single mute assembly has been removed (so what!) and the three control knobs are from a later era. There are no repairs, cracks or other issues and we have priced this guitar to sell. The first person who plays it will buy it!!

This 'fourth generation' Country Gentleman with Gretsch Filter'Tron Humbuckers and the single mute assembly was introduced in 1967 and replaced in 1971 by a new model designation "7670" which was a totally redesigned version.
