An "Antique Sunburst" Explorer
This Antique Sunburst Explorer weighs 9.90 lbs. and has a nice, fat nut width of 1 11/16 inches and a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Solid maple body, bound curly maple top, three-piece flamed maple neck, and unbound ebony fretboard with 22 jumbo frets and inlaid pearl dot position markers. Headstock with inlaid pearl "Gibson" logo and with "E/2" on truss-rod cover. Individual Gibson closed-back tuners with octagonal metal buttons. Serial number ("82102022") and "Made in U.S.A." stamped on the back of the headstock. Two exposed-coil "Dirty-Fingers" humbucking pickups with screaming outputs of 15.12k and 15.05k. Five-layer (black/white/black/white/black) plastic pickguard. Three controls (two volume and one master tone control) in a straight line on the lower treble bout plus three-way pickup selector switch mounted on the pickguard on the upper treble horn. Black plastic barrel-shaped "Speed" knobs with white markings. New Tune-O-Matic bridge and TP-6 tailpiece. All hardware gold-plated. The pots are dated 1982. Apart from some minor belt buckle wear and a few tiny surface marks, this guitar is in near fine condition. Housed in the original Gibson black hardshell case with red plush lining.
Although the CMT Explorer was available as a limited edition model in 1976, it was only offered as a regular production model from May 1981 to 1984.
