With a Neck to Die For…
This scarce Sunburst Telecaster weighs 9.40 lbs. and has a nut width of just under 1 5/8 inches and a scale length of 25 1/2 inches. Solid alder body and one-piece maple neck (with a skunk stripe) and a veneer rosewood fretboard with 21 frets and inlaid pearloid dot position markers. The neck profile on this guitar is very similar to that of a '56 Telecaster… medium to fat - a really great neck! Individual Fender "F" tuners with octagonal metal buttons. Headstock decal with "Fender" logo in black with gold trim, "Telecaster" in black beside it, "Serial Number S 843432" beneath "Fender" in black, and "Made in USA" in black, beneath "Telecaster". Two "butterfly" string trees. Four-bolt neck plate with large Fender "F" logo. One plain metal-cover pickup (at neck) with an output of 7.00k and one black six-polepiece pickup (angled in bridgeplate) with a really hot output of 6.21k. Three-layer (black/white/black) plastic pickguard with eight screws. Two controls (one volume, one tone) plus three-way selector switch (with black plastic "Strat-style" tip) all on metal plate adjoining pickguard. Chrome knobs with flat tops and knurled sides. Fender combined bridge/tailpiece with three smooth saddles and original chrome "ashtray" bridge cover. The pots are stamped "R137 8048" (CTS December 1980). This guitar is in exceptionally fine (9.00) condition. A tiny amount of edgewear is all that prevents this twenty-eight year old beauty from being near mint. There is very little fretwear to the original frets. Overall, this is an outstanding example of this rare color. Housed in its original Fender black hardshell case with the "tail" and "Made in USA" on the Fender logo and with dark orange plush lining (8.50).
