All Original 1968 Vox Stinger lV Bass.
1968 Vox Stinger IV Bass.
This 13 inch wide single-bound laminated maple hollow body arch top 'teardrop' shaped bass weighs just 6.60 lbs. The body is a rich translucent red color and features a single-bound specific shape curved sound-hole. Laminated maple neck with a nut width of just 1.43 inches and a profile that goes from 0.82 inches at the first fret to 0.89 at the 12th fret. Single-bound rosewood fretboard with a short-scale length of 30.00 inches, a metal nut, zero fret, 21 original medium-thin frets and pearloid dot position markers. The face of the headstock has a "VOX" in applied metal letters and two 'Butterfly' string-trees. On the back of the headstock is a black decal with "Made in Italy by Vox". The four on one side tuners are similar to the Individual Kluson style bass tuners with cloverleaf buttons as used on Fender basses of the sixties. Four-bolt neck plate with serial number "402861" between the top two screws and Vox emblem with "The British Sound" in relief and a silver label with "Stinger lV". Two single-coil Vox bass pickups with four pole-pieces and black plastic surrounds with balanced outputs of 4.30k and 4.31k. Three controls (one volume, two tone) plus a three-way pickup selector switch. White plastic bell-shaped control knobs with metal tops. Tear-shaped celluloid tortoiseshell pickguard (disintigrating). Combined Vox bridge/tailpiece with two adjustable threaded saddles and chrome-plated metal cover with impressed "V". Original black padded protector pad on back of guitar with eight fasteners. The celluloid pickguard shows severe disintegration and has now been removed (in case). The volume control knob has a small piece broken away but it still functions perfectly. This closet bass is in exceptionally fine (9.00) condition except for some finish checking - mainly on the back under the protector pad. Housed in the original three-latch rectangular, black hardshell case with black leather ends and maroon plush lining (9.00).
