Epiphone's Version of the Gibson Melody Maker

This double cutaway (like Gibson's Melody Maker) solid body guitar weighs just 5.30 lbs. and has an unusually fat nut nut width (for 1965) of 1 11/16 inches and a scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Solid mahogany body, one-piece mahogany neck with a medium profile and Brazilian rosewood fretboard with 22 jumbo frets and inlaid pearl dot position markers. Narrow headstock with gold silk-screened "Epiphone" logo (which reads upside-down to the player). Later individual 'rotomatic' style tuners with metal pentagonal buttons. Serial number "285007" stamped in black on the back of the headstock. One Gibson Melody Maker-style single-coil pickup (with no visible poles) in an oblong black housing and with an output of 7.01k. Tortoiseshell pickguard with seven screws. Two controls (one volume, one tone) and jack socket, all on pickguard. The potentiometers are stamped "134 6145" and "134 6147" (Centralab November 1961). Gold plastic bell-shaped knobs with metal tops. Later combination wrap-over bar-bridge "stud" tailpiece. This super little 'player' has been expertly re-fretted with jumbo fretwire. The black plastic truss-rod cover has been removed and there are three small holes on the face where the Epiphone tremolo has been replaced by a later stud-tail bar. This guitar is in excellent (8.50) condition and is being offered at a price which reflects the changes - it does not have a case.

The Olympic was introduced in 1960 as a single cutaway solid body. In 1963, it became an asymmetrical double cutaway body with upper bass horn slightly longer than treble horn.
