With a Wonderful Deep "V" Neck Profile - Very Different from the Gibson ES-125T.

1959 Epiphone Century E422T.

An unbelievably light (5.60 lbs.) guitar with a with a thinline non-cutaway single-bound laminated maple top, back, and sides. Three-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany neck with a wonderful medium to thick deep 'V' profile and a huge nut width of just over 1 11/16 inches and a scale length of 25 1/2 inches. Brazilian rosewood fretboard with 20 jumbo frets and inlaid pearl dot position markers. Headstock with metal Epiphone logo plate. Shaped metal truss-rod cover with three screws. Closed-back Kluson Deluxe 'single-line' strip tuners with white plastic oval buttons. One Epiphone 'New York Century' pickup with an output of 6.26k. Tortoiseshell pickguard with inlaid silver Epiphone stylized "E" logo. Two controls (one volume, one tone) on lower treble bout. Epiphone 'Carousel' white bakelite conrtol knobs. Rosewood bridge with pre-set compensating saddle and trapeze tailpiece with plain cross-bar. Rectangular blue label inside bass 'f' hole with "Epiphone Inc, Kalamazoo, Michigan" printed in black, model "Century / E422T" typed in black and the serial number "A-2576" stamped in red. This amazing guitar in near mint (9.25) condition. The only thing that prevents this instrument from being mint are two tiny additional screw holes below the strip tuners. Apparently at some time the tuners had been replaced with slightly longer (3/8 inch) strip tuners, but the original strip tuners were back on the guitar when we purchased it. Housed in a later tan hardshell case with blue plush lining. (9.25).

Although the Epiphone Century is often compared to a Gibson ES-125T, in this case the similarity ends with the basic shape. The scale length is 25 1/2 compared with Gibson's 24 3/4 inches which gives an extra harmonic sparkle and acoustic 'snappiness' that only a 25 1/2 inch scale can offer. This guitar has a wonderful three-piece deep "V" neck profile as compared to the ES-125's one-piece neck and round profile. The New York pickup has a pleasantly different sound to the Gibson's P-90. This fine example with the 'New York' neck is the only one of these that we have ever seen…

"After Gibson bought Epiphone in 1957, Epiphone parts were used up before Gibson parts were issued. This occured on Gibson-made Epiphone starting in 1958. In addition to New York pickups, both acoustics and electrics featured New York necks with a pronouced "V" shape that Gibson necks did not have. The New York Epiphone peghead shape is also different from that of the later Gibson made necks. The stock of Epi-made necks ran out in late 1961 or early 1962 on most models." (www.provide.net).
