"In 1986 Gibson introduced the J-180 acoustic, a Nashville-built, imitative 'sequel' to the original Everly Brothers model, whose production run extended from its debut in 1962 until its discontinuation in 1972. In 1991 production of the J-180 was transferred from its Nashville facility to the Montana plant, where the model became part of Gibson's successful 'Limited Editions' reissue series...The model has remained a popular stage guitar because of its unique and striking appearance and how it 'mikes.' The J-180, with its body size and shape, responds beautifully to any kind of electronics; the tone is loud, clear, and rich, but without the boominess that is a characteristic problem with the wide-waist instruments. The J-180 has also been a popular model for customizing, and stunning examples exist...The J-180 has been the '55 Chevy of the Gibson flat-tops. The customers aren't the only ones taken with this model: Gibson liked the guitar so much that they turned it into a special-run instrument, which they named the J-180 Artist" (Eldon Whitford, David Vinopal, and Dan Erlewine, Gibson's Fabulous Flat-Top Guitars, pp. 149-150).

"The 'one-and-only' with its distinctive Mother-of-Pearl star inlays and dual pickguards" (http://montana.gibson.com/guitars/J-180/j-180.html).
