Competition Orange Mustang Bass with red 'Racing' stripes.
1972 Fender Mustang Bass.
Offset asymmetrical double cutaway solid body. This 12 1/4 inch wide Mustang Bass weighs just 6.90 lbs. and has a nut width of just under 1 5/8 inches and a scale length of 24 inches. Solid alder 'contour' body, one-piece maple neck with a medium-to-thick profile, 19 original medium frets and pearloid dot position markers. Fender 'transitional' headstock logo with "Fender" in gold with black trim and "Pat 2,960,900 3,143,028 2,573,254". Individual Fender Bass tuning gears with metal cloverleaf buttons. Four-bolt Fender "F" neck plate with serial number "363892" stamped between the top two screws. Fender Mustang Bass, gray bottom, split single-coil pickup with an output of 14.27k (stamped in black on the underside "6342"). Three-layer plastic (pearloid/black/white) pickguard with 10 screws. Two controls, one volume, one tone. Black plastic control knobs with seven sides and white line markers. Fender Mustang Bass Bridge with four adjustable saddles and original mute assembly on Mustang tailpiece. The neck is stamped "7 AUG 72M" (the "M' written in pencil) and the potentiometers are stamped "304 7222" and "304 7239" (Stackpole, June and September 1972). This super bass is in exceptionally fine (9.00) condition and is complete with it's original hang-tag / instruction manual with matching serial number. The Competition Orange finish with red racing stripes is bright and fresh with no signs of fading or discoloration. There are a couple of very small and insignificant surface chips - one on the back of the body and two on the sides. Housed in its original Fender gray hardshell case with black imitation leather ends and orange plush lining (9.25).
